If you have vitiligo, eating psoralen rich foods such as celery, carrots and parsnips can help increase your skin's natural reaction to sunlight. In short, it can help promote skin tanning once exposed to the sun's UVA rays.
2. Ayurvedic therapy. Ayurvedic is an form of medicine native to India that combines herbal and natural remedies to treat diseases such as vitiligo. To treat vitiligo, diet is strictly monitored to remove all the toxins in the body. The body is then purified with oils, heat therapy, and organic herbs.
3. Ginkgo Biloba. Ginkgo biloba has been shown to have antioxidant and immunomodulatory properties which can help induce regimentation of the skin. You can take ginkgo biloba in supplement form or you can also take it as a tea.
4. St. John's Wort. Like psoralen, St. John's Wort also increases the skin's responsiveness to sunlight which can help repigment the affected skin. This home remedy is not for everyone though. St. John's Wort should not be taken by women who are pregnant or nursing.
5. Picrorhiza. Picrorhiza, an herb native to India, has long been used in treating vitiligo and other health conditions. It also helps promote skin regimentation.
Although these home remedies are widely used with no adverse effects being reported, it is still important to consult your doctor first as these natural herbs may interact with the medicines that you are taking. Side effects and risks may be less common than in synthetic medicines but it's still best to take it with caution.
